Her achievements as a young performer in America (which is known as Maureen O'Hara today) would certainly put her in the category of child prodigies. This is a natural quality for a woman of Irish origin, and that was surrounded during her early years by talented relatives and parents. Maureen was born in this cosy haven, August 17, 1920. She was raised by the family of her parents. Marguerita Lea. FitzSimons had a successful contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin company, and also owned shares in the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer club. Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a great athlete and was a gruelling athlete in games as a child. She combined this interest with an equally natural gift of performing. This was demonstrated by her winning pretty much every Feis awards for drama and theatrical performing her country offered. In the age of 14she was admitted to the Abbey Theater, where her dream was to pursue operatic singing and classical theater.
